Voodoo Label
In this age of technological explosion, for many of us it can be too easy to forget that there are jungles other than concrete, and a connection to the earth that goes back to the time we first crawled out of the primordial ooze.
Even in this era of globalisation there are still dark corners, shadows, secrets, and spirits. These are dense, lush places brimming with the pure and primal lifeforce we see manifesting in exotic cultures; their music, their dance – their way of making sense of the world.
In all their conquering and colonisation of regions with tropical climates, European nations forever fused elements of their traditions with the organic and tribal textures of the ‘savage’ lands, leading to the plethora of contemporary Caribbean music that exists today. Voodoo originated in Africa long ago, and in 2010 Raiden is launching Voodoo Music to welcome drum & bass into the true jungle – into the steamy cradle where life pulses with many rhythms, and the colours are so vibrant they almost bleed. Voodoo Music will provide an aural window into these vivid and vital landscapes, complete with the mysticism and the allure of ‘the other’ they manifested through mankind.
Join Raiden , Morphy & Khanage as they synthesise such soundscapes with elements of exotica and dub to remind us how certain rhythms can reach places in people long lain dormant, and reawaken our primal connection to particular parts of the planet. To aid them in this mission, a multitude of artists and musicians from a wide variety of backgrounds will also be appearing on the imprint.
This ain’t no hyperbole or empty hoodoo – witness the dawn of voodoo dub, and the Voodoo Music label.
